Note: 4/7/2010: I would love for this addiction to be taken away right now; however, it has certainly brought me closer to the spirit, and helped me to take advantage of the Atonement. I try not to complain about my circumstances, but I know that one of my character weaknesses is a lack of patience.

STEP 3
-- The Lord could have removed the burdens of Alma and his people; instead, He strengthened them to bear "their burdens with ease." Notice that they did not complain but submitted cheerfully and patiently to the will of the Lord. Write about the humility it takes to want immediate relief and yet be willing to have a burden lightened gradually.

Note: 4/7/2010: It makes sense on a spiritual level that turning my will over to him would lead me to ultimate happiness. Since we are unable to see our future, this becomes a test of our faith. I feel as though I can trust Him with my life.

STEP 3
-- Consider what it means to live your life in harmony with the will of God. Think about how His enabling power can come into your life as you turn to Him. How do you feel about letting God direct your life?

Mormon 9:31
Condemn me not because of mine imperfection, neither my father, because of his imperfection, neither them who have written before him; but rather give thanks unto God that he hath made manifest unto you our imperfections, that ye may learn to be more wise than we have been.

Two Principles for Any Economy
Brethren, you have a duty to learn as much as you can. Please encourage your families, your quorum members, everyone to learn and become better educated. If formal education is not available, do not allow that to prevent you from acquiring all the knowledge you can. Under such circumstances, the best books, in a sense, can become your "university"—a classroom that is always open and admits all who apply. Strive to increase your knowledge of all that is "virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy." (Articles of Faith 1:13.) Seek knowledge "by study and also by faith." (D&C 109:7.) Seek with a humble spirit and contrite heart. (D&C 136:33.) As you apply the spiritual dimension of faith to your study—even of temporal things—you can amplify your intellectual capacity, for "if your eye be single to [God’s] glory, your whole [body] shall be filled with light, . . . and [comprehend] all things." (D&C 88:67.)

STEP 9
In the past, if you were religiously active, you may have been motivated by fear of the judgment of God or of what others would think. Perhaps you acted out of a sense of duty. Today you recognize that service is a way of coming unto Christ. It is a way of expressing love to God. It expresses a continuing need for His power and gratitude for His divine help. Consider whether your activity in the Church is still motivated by fear or duty or if it is a natural outgrowth of your reborn faith in Christ.
